By proud admission, the Ancient Romans were imperialists. They believed they had the ideal culture, and that it was their destiny to conquer and rule the world under their system. While America has certainly been accused of imperialism, the American way is truly different.

The goal of imperialism is to conquer and control. By contrast, the goal of democracy is to put the power and control of a nation in the hands of the electorate, that is, the people. America promotes the ideal of democracy around the world. America is not trying to conquer or rule the world. It is actually those who favor their own version of imperialism who are the ones who accuse America of it. This is irony on a global scale.

The truth be told, by promoting democracy, America is actually promoting anti-imperialism. Even when we go to war, we do not conquer or take land and resources, we give it back to the people of the country so that they can rule themselves. If America maintains any presence in a country, they pay rent. They do not try to make other countries part of America. That would go against the American ideal of democracy.

It is not the goal of democracy to duplicate culture in another country, but to duplicate the idea of the rule of the people and the rule of law. A country and culture can become a democratic version of itself without becoming American. A country that experiences this experiences justice, fairness, equality, and prosperity because it honors the rights of its people.

The Romans were also eclectic. They were eclectic because they took all the best elements from the cultures that they conquered. America is also eclectic, but for a different reason. America is eclectic because of all the cultures they embrace. America is made up of people groups from all over the world, and America consistently extends it’s good will all over the world, even to those who cannot reward America for its kindness.

OK, I just had to add this little rant. I just bought a bag of a product called Oil-Dri(tm) to use in my garage after working on my car. I love the stuff, it’s awesome, and works better than anything of it’s kind. I noticed a faux seal on the bag that tauts “All organic Earth materials” or something to that effect. Oil-Dri(tm) is a product much like unscented kitty litter that soaks up Oil, grease, and other sundry TOXIC chemicals off and out of the pores of your floors. This preserves the surface and allows to dispose of the TOXIC liquids more easily by simply sweeping them up. So, just think about it. You soak up the chemicals into this stuff. What you have is TOXIC, so who gives a flying flip is the stuff was “All natural, organic, or enviornmentally friendly” in the first place when it’s whole purpose on earth is to become contaminated?

I’ve occasionally seen these fruity, 50-something old hippy protestors out on the street corners holding up signs that said “War is not the answer”. I say, sometime it is, because there is oppressive evil that must be fought.

My sister received this from one of our Marines currently in Iraq, it is a story she received that is actually making her think of re-enlisting! It is a story that might make you think. Read on….

The other day, my nine year old son wanted to know why we were at war. My husband looked at our son and then looked at me. My husband and I were in the Army during the Gulf War and we would be honored to serve and defend our Country again today. I knew that my husband would give him a good explanation.

My husband thought for a few minutes and then told my son to go stand in our front living room window. He said “Son, stand there and tell me what you see?” “I see trees and cars and our neighbor’s houses.” he replied. “OK, now I want you to pretend that our house and our yard is the United States of America and you are President Bush.”
Our son giggled and said “OK.”
“Now son, I want you to look out the window and pretend that every house and yard on this block is a different country” my husband said.
“OK Dad, I’m pretending.”
“Now I want you to stand there and look out the window and pretend you see Saddam come out of his house with his wife, he has her by the hair and is hitting her. You see her bleeding and crying. He hits her in the face,he throws her on the ground, then he starts to kick her to death. Their children run out and are afraid to stop him, they are screaming and crying, they are watching this but do nothing because they are kids and they are afraid of their father. You see all of this, son…. what do you do?”
“Dad?”
“What do you do son?”
“I’d call the police, Dad.”
“OK. Pretend that the police are the United Nations. They take your call.They listen to what you know and saw but they refuse to help. What do you do then son?”
“Dad………. but the police are supposed to help!”
My son starts to whine.
“They don’t want to son, because they say that it is not their place or your place to get involved and that you should stay out of it,” my husband says.
“But Dad…he killed her!!” my son exclaims.
“I know he did…but the police tell you to stay out of it. Now I want you to look out that window and pretend you see our neighbor who you’re pretending is Saddam turn around and do the same thing to his children.”
“Daddy…he kills them?”
“Yes son, he does. What do you do?”
“Well, if the police don’t want to help, I will go and ask my next door neighbor to help me stop him.” our son says.
“Son, our next door neighbor sees what is happening and refuses to get involved as well. He refuses to open the door and help you stop him,” my husband says.
“But Dad, I NEED help!!! I can’t stop him by myself!!”
“WHAT DO YOU DO SON?” Our son starts to cry. “OK, no one wants to help you, the man across the street saw you ask for help and saw that no one would help you stop him. He stands taller and puffs out his chest. Guess what he does next son?”
“What Daddy?”
“He walks across the street to the old ladies house and breaks down her door and drags her out, steals all her stuff and sets her house on fire and then…he kills her. He turns around and sees you standing in the window and laughs at you. WHAT DO YOU DO?”
“Daddy…”
“WHAT DO YOU DO?”
Our son is crying and he looks down and he whispers, “I’d close the blinds, Daddy.”
My husband looks at our son with tears in his eyes and asks him…”Why?”
“Because Daddy…..the police are supposed to help people who needs them…and they won’t help…. You always say that neighbors are supposed to HELP neighbors, but they won’t help either…they won’t help me stop him…I’m afraid….I can’t do it by myself Daddy…..I can’t look out my window and just watch him do all these terrible things and…and…..do nothing…so….I’m just going to close the blinds…. so I can’t see what he’s doing……..and I’m going to pretend that it is not happening.” I start to cry.
My husband looks at our nine year old son standing in the window, looking pitiful and ashamed at his answers to my husband’s questions and he says…”Son”
“Yes, Daddy.”
“Open the blinds because that man…. he’s at your front door…”WHAT DO YOU DO?”
My son looks at his father, anger and defiance in his eyes. He balls up his tiny fists and looks his father square in the eyes, without hesitation he says: “I DEFEND MY FAMILY DAD!! I’M NOT GONNA LET HIM HURT MOMMY OR MY SISTER, DAD!!! I’M GONNA FIGHT HIM, DAD, I’M GONNA FIGHT HIM!!!!!”
I see a tear roll down my husband’s cheek and he grabs our son to his chest and hugs him tight, and says… “It’s too late to fight him, he’s too strong and he’s already at YOUR front door son…..you should have stopped him BEFORE he killed his wife, and his children and the old lady across the way.
You have to do what’s right, even if you have to do it alone, before it’s too late.” my husband whispers. THAT scenario I just gave you is WHY we are at war with Iraq.
When good men stand by and let evil happen son, THAT is the greatest EVIL of all.

Our President is doing what is right. We, as a free nation, must understand that this war is a war of humanity. WE must remove evil men from power so that we can continue to live in a free world where we are not afraid to look out our window so that my nine year old son won’t grow up in a world where he feels that if he just “closes” that blinds the atrocities in the world won’t affect him.

This should be printed in every newspaper and posted in every school in America.

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn’t have started this war. They complain about his prosecution of it. One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S history.

Let’s clear up one point: President Bush didn’t start the war on terror. Try to remember, it was started by terrorists BEFORE 9/11. Let’s look at the “worst” president and mismanagement claims.

FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman finished that war and started one in Korea. North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,333 per year.

John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent. Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden’s head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions. Over 2,900 lives lost on 9/11.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, rushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 300 a year. Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home.

Worst president in history? Come on!

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but…

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51 day operation.

We’ve been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida in the 2000 election!!!!

What a guy! You’ve probably heard of him but this is a little more detailed. Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the tent city jail, has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails.

Took away their weights. Cut off all but “G” movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn’t get sued for discrimination. He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it’s gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. When the inmates complained, he told them, “This isn’t the Ritz/Carlton. If you don’t like it, don’t come back.”

he bought Newt Gingrich’s lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports:

About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before. Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

“It feels like we are in a furnace,” said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 1/2 years. “It’s inhumane.”

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent cityand long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic.

He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: “It’s 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn’t commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!”

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one, there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes – not live in luxury until it’s time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers’ money and enjoy things taxpayers can’t afford to have for themselves.

My father and grandfather didn’t die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours. I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can’t understand the word “freeze” or “stop” in English, see the above lines.

I don’t think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I don’t hate the rich. I don’t pity the poor. I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television . That doesn’t stop you from watching them.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that’s better, and put your name on the building.

Plan for America: New foreign policy and defence strategy:

The US will apologize to the world for our “interference” in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo, Noriega, Milosevic and the rest of those ‘good ole boys,’ We will never “interfere” again.

We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don’t want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one sneaking through holes in the fence.

All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We’ll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them.

All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don’t like it there, change it yourself and don’t hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don’t need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.

No foreign “students” over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don’t attend classes, they get a “D” and it’s back home baby.

The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing nonpolluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.

Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don’t like it, we go some place else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)

If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not “interfere,” They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.

Ship the UN Headquarters and most of our politicians to an isolated island some place. We don’t need the spies and fair-weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.

All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us “Ugly Americans” any longer.

… I thought you might find some of my viewpoints interesting..I’ve been watching this for years as I’m sure you are aware:

I read an article a several years ago which confirmed my suspicious nature — that stated the left wing extortionists (Kennedy, Kerry, Gore, Clinton, et al) had done some macroeconomic research which demonstrated Europe, Asia, Canada and Australia didn’t reverse the “big car” trend until their petrol ran over the equivalent of $4 USD.

It seemed like a turning point that, once crossed, forced people to smarten up and dump the big vehicles and buy minis.

In the Bilderberg meeting (I have my sources) of 1996 it was decided to force the price of gasoline in the USA and Canada to over $4 per gallon to bring it into setp with the world economy.

The sentiment was reinforced in the G7 when Michel Camdessus stated the growing world economy has to be controlled. It was generally agreed that the US is over-using the world’s supply of petroleum for pleasure; the overusage had to be stalled in order for the new players in the world economy (e.g., India, Pakistan, China) to have their fair share of petroleum resources, partly in keeping with their need for growth, but mostly in keeping with the G7’s lust for the cheap labor force of the third world.

The CFR intervened after the G7 (now G8) meeting and insisted they delay the price increase until the reversing trend of purchases from small to larger vehicles was complete. People were beginning to buy bigger trucks and SUV’s, and V8’s were back in production. The oil barons would profit greatly at the expense of the wasteful Americans and catch us with our panties showing. The price of fuel would rise sharply while we had only our gas guzzlers to get us to work and back.

It’s now complete. V8’s, larger trucks, and SUV’s have recently begun to flood the used car market; it’s the signal to raise the prices. The oil producers were already poised for the attack, and had a great number of reasons – hurricane Katrina only made it easier for them — any hurricane or natural disaster would’ve suited their purpose, but Katrina was their blessing. They were even planning a “terrorist attack” on some in-port Tankers and refineries, as well as some other ploys.

You can now expect your gasoline to hit $4 per gallon (personally, I’m looking closeer to 5, cuz they won’t just stop at 4 — cuz they are thinking “this is too easy”…., despite whatever ‘reason’ the elitists proffer.

so….It’s all pre-planned, and I’m glad you learned from this suspicious, back-to-the-land, self-sufficient and elitist-hater.

ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don’t be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don’t be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won’t have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times. But we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.

ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country. We don’t care where you are from. English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from!

This was sent to me by a retirie recieving Social Security benefits. This guy worked over 30 years of his life on the border of Texas and Mexico ministering to people in need. The level of his credibility to comment on this is immense.

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,

4.) That the money the participants put into the independent “Trust Fund” rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to “put away,” you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent “Trust” fund and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democrat-controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democrat Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and violation of the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

Commentary on the previous Social Security Trivia quiz submission seen below. The following opinions are my own reflect my observations of the truth.

Editor’s comments on Social Security story:

Republicans are constantly being accused of seeking to destroy Social Security, yet they are the only ones that seem to have the guts to stand up and decide to do something positive about the impending crisis.

Does anyone remember the 2000 elections when the Liberal Democrats were saying there was a MAJOR Social Security crisis on the horizon, and that something drastic needs to be done about it? A.K.A. Al Gore’s “Lock Box”? He repeatedly said “We’ve got to SAVE Social Security!”

Why do they criticize President Bush for forging ahead with the difficult task of making positive changes to save Social Security in a way that is fair to all? Why did they do a complete “about face” in their 2004 John Kerry campaign rhetoric and say that “Social Security is just fine the way it is” and “leave it alone”?

Why also do the Liberal Democrats criticize President Bush for fulfilling his promise with a program for prescription drug benefits for the elderly? The fact is that Social Security and prescription drug benefits for the elderly has been a large component of the Liberal Democrats campaign platform year after year, election after election. And yet, when in office they do very little about these issues except figure out how to toss the money out the window rather than wisely spend it on tax-paying citizens in need. Does anyone remember in the late 80’s-early 90’s when there was a Social Security surplus and the Liberal Democrats wanted to figure out other things to do with the money including a senatorial lottery? Look it up.

Why also do they oppose the President’s bold and positive moves to reform our floundering public education system and give people choice? Are the Liberal Democrats the “pro-choice party? Aren’t they the child advocate party? Guess not.

The Liberal Democrats are too busy catering to their financial supporters. Thus they leave behind the poor, the needy, the elderly, the minorities, the women, the children, and the environment.

So why? Why do the Liberal Democrats really oppose these postive measures? I believe the answer is very simple. They will lose their use of these issues as leverage. They don’t actually care about the needs of these groups. They only SAY they care. This is evident because they don’t actually do something about these issues after they are put into power.

In other words: at heart they are truly facists. They are only interested in power and are willing to lie, cheat, and steal to get it.

Fascism a. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. b. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government. c. Oppressive, dictatorial control.

Yeah, I said it! Someone has to say it. I know this will probably mark me as some sort of “right-wing” nut job. So be it. Since I am advocating the truth and that label comes from liars, I will wear it proudly as a badge of honor.

I think it’s time for all these different interest groups who support the Liberal Democrats to turn to their suitor and ask “what have you done for me lately”. But be ready, the answer will come in the form of a meaningless portfolio of dubious achievements that don’t amount to much but look impressive on paper. The sappy presentation of such a portfolio will then be followed by “….and with your continued support, we can really do something in the future together.” It’s an empty courtship. It’s akin to the guy who dates you for years, and even looks at engagement rings with you, but never, ever makes a real commitment. Only false promises. It’s the worst kind of cruelty. False hope.

Concerning the Liberal Democrats, my dating advice would be “dump the bums”.

Do the rules listed below sound bad to you? They sound good to me, but apparently there are leaders of our country who think these words should be banned from the public setting. I guess freedom of speech only applies to those who agree with their ideology.

Maybe you don’t believe in God, but don’t you think if we read and applied these words to some degree then maybe we wouldn’t have some of the trouble we have in our country like Murder, Rape, Theft, School Shootings, Corporate Plunder, Political Corruption, Suicide, Drug Addiction, Alcoholism, Sexual Immorality, broken homes, Racism, Fraud, Child Abuse, and even heath issues related to stress? Maybe, just maybe if we started with these rules, things would be a little better. And don’t we all want that?

God Said:

- You shall have no other gods before me.
- You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.
- You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
- Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. - Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
- You shall not murder.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
- You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

While I am a believer in Jesus resting firmly on the authority of the Scriptures, I will attempt in my own feable way to place practical argument aligned with the 10 Commandments as they are called.

- You shall have no other gods before me.

Would not putting God or for you agnostics out there a “higher power” first in our lives steer away our own natural tendency to live for ourselves help us be better people? Is not selfish ambition really the root of all crime and social offense?

- You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything ….

All too often we engage in a self-centered pursuit of our own happiness, and put first or idolize things that we believe will make us happy. There is nothing wrong with being happy, but it’s when we pursue other things at the expense of doing right and at the expense of other’s well-being, that we sacrifice our very souls by living for something that in the end doesn’t bring true and lasting joy. We end up being empty and depressed. And of course our Creator deserves first-place in everything.

- You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

Imagine for a moment this Creator I am describing who deserves all of our respect simply for who He is. Wouldn’t we be better off living in such a way out of respect? Would we not take pause in our actions and reflect as to whether or not we should do certain things?

How much better our homes and family relationships would be. Yeah, nobody’s perfect. My parents weren’t but my respectful attitude towards them made and makes a big difference.

Well, wouldn’t the scene at Columbine be different… or in our cities and towns?

- You shall not commit adultery.

The institution of marriage has been under attack ever since the beginning of time. The family is the building block of society. The ideal and strongest family is one that is comprised of a faithful, loving, monogamous relationship between a man and a woman who lead their home together teaching their children how to grow to be good people and repeat the process. How very disrespected and degraded the family has become, because we are not respecting morality.

- You shall not steal.

From petty theft to corporate plunder to the abuse of eminent domain. How different would the lives of countless victims be if people did not move to satisfy their own greed.

- You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

No one will ever forget words like “I did not touch that woman”, “no new taxes”, “cooking the books”. How much damage has it caused to hear someone make a statement only to find out later that is was a lie. Whether it’s in everyday interpersonal relationships or national leaders, lying destroys. Lack of integrity is rampant. It is a battle that individuals must wage within themselves. If we deteriorate to the point where no one can trust the word of another, life with each other will be most miserable.

- You shall not covet …

At the core of our society, coveting is vogue. Shame on us. If we did not covet, you would not see the rash of corporate fraud, or the epidemic of credit debt. We see things, and we want them and put ourselves and our livelihood at risk to have them some people are dumb enough to blame capitalism for these kinds of problems. Not so. Capitalism is free and healthy and allows people the freedom to take care of themselves and others, as they should. The problem is covetousness. We need to break the ‘keeping up with the Jones’ scenario, and learn to work hard, plan, earn, store, and help.

I quickly typed out these observations. I could have poured more into it, waxed more eloquent, and engaged in more Bible apologetics. But again, my intent is to appeal to a common-sense analysis of the problems we face in our culture today and offer some observations as to how these timeless rules are still relevant, and how the application of them today could help us resolve the issues we face.

One final thought. If these are good, practical ideas that came from the ancient Judeo-Christian Scripture, what more beneficial guidence might they have to offer. Shouldn’t we pursure this knowledge.

The Virginia Tech shootings still weigh heavily on many minds. Even now words cannot fully give credence to the horror of this event. Much could be said and has been said regarding gun ownership, mental illness, personal privacy, information sharing in law enforcement, and personal freedoms.

Resolving some of these issues can be complicated. There are good points on both sides of most arguements. To a degree, I would like to simplify the most critical of the issues, that is, the loss of human life. Here of 4 of my phillosophical presuppositions that I consider to be fact.

1) People will snap, go crazy, get violent, and hurt people with or without the use of a tool to cause harm i.e. guns, knives, bats, sticks, cars, billy clubs, brass knuckles, etc. The will harm as they have determined and decided to do so.
2) In our culture, Civil liberties groups and the government will continue to go back and forth on privacy issues, and get very little done.
3) Police can’t be everywhere at all times to protect people.
4) People have the right to defend themselves, even with the use of lethal force if reasonable and necessary.

Many will agree with these statements. Some may not want to agree because of the logical conclusions that they might lead to; however, the truth found in these statements must still be acknowledged.

Now we come to the pay-off: “All it would have taken is one armed person, a student or a teacher, to stop this lunitic and save dozens of lives.” You may not like this statment, but the logic and common sense cannot be denied and it is provided in good faith from me, a non-violent, law-abiding, gun-toting citizen. I have the right, and refuse to be a victim of violent attack without a chance to defend myself and those around me.

Think about it, and be determined to excercise your rights.

A citizen who breaks a law is subject to imprisonment. Why should a legislator who makes a bad law not also face the same penalty?
