Doomed – seriously.
[The following is a tri-focused rant at the economy, the healthcare bill, and the brazen stupidity of current national leadership. Please forgive the mid-stream subject changes.]
I was talking to a friend about the bill health passing today, and he said “… yeah, hang on to your wallet”, to which I replied, “That won’t do any good, what’s in there won’t be worth much before long.”
It’s all the in the name. The so-called “healthcare reconciliation act” is nothing but a major attempt at socialism that will end up being a major torpedo to this country’s economy. Furthermore, it’s another huge hail in the coffin for the US.
This act will not help the poor and disenfranchised that they claim it will. It will simply deflate what wealth and healthcare footprint we do have until there is little to go around for anyone. This is because of the dreadful impact this will have on the already recessed economy. An economy on which our all-wise dictator decided to mortgage by tripling our national debt all in the name of ’stimulus’. I’d like to whisper this news in his ear: “It’s not working.” And now we can’t even make the payments on the interest, let alone the principle.
This all almost makes me wonder if this isn’t a way to force us to make a desperate move. If the economy sags to the point of depression and the financial rating of our country drops, there will be a massive public outcry – mostly because we’re soft and will whine more about the loss of convenience. “Superman” a.k.a. El-Dictator, will have to swoop in with a bold and sweeping solution.
What could it be? Any number of things, but one could be a currency change. If you change the base, you change everything, and it could be sold as an immediate relief to all our woes. Crowds would cheer, parades would be thrown, and Children would sing the praise of our all-wise Nobel-laureate leader (again). No one but those portrayed to be on the fringe will be against it.
There have been two more notable considerations that have come up in resent years. One would be that the US change to the Euro for it’s currency. The other would be a proposed, but not yet accepted currency is called the “Amero”. The intent is to consolidate the currency of regional countries to use this, namely the US, Canada, and Mexico to start with. Some think the Amero is a myth that doesn’t exist, some think that they are secretly being minted right now.
Having said this, any knee-jerk reaction like the ones we’ve seen recently, and the ones we may see are performed by ‘rent-seeking’ politicians interested in their popularity and power. None of them appear to give a hoot about the economic “law of secondary consequences”. Look what happened to Greece http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/f90bca10-1679-11df-bf44-00144feab49a.html You, me, and our children pay for it in the long term and the world we want to leave them is being hijacked by morons who can market well.
Who knows? There are plenty of spheres of influence in dark little rooms who all think they are the ones pulling the strings, or at least should be. Somehow whoever bubbles up to the top in the public forum, pulls off a few things – good or bad – that these little power sphere come up with.
So do I think voting doesn’t matter and that democracy is dead? No. I believe we are just not thinking enough, and simply voting based on how sound bytes move us during campaigns. Ultimately we are getting what we deserve even if it is being done to us.
